Haiti Disaster Relief Information
Churches in the LaGrange District who would like to help the victims of the Haiti earthquake, can make contributions to UMCOR through the conference treasurers office or the district office.  Make checks payable to the conference or the district and mark them "Haiti Relief # 4183".  100% of the money sent to UMCOR goes directly to Haiti.  Another thing your church can do is to assemble UMCOR Health Kits to be delivered to people in Haiti.  Below is a list of items to be in cluded in the health kits.  Once you have assembled the kits, you may deliver them to the LaGrange First UMC (gym building) or to the Peachtree City UMC.  We will collects the kits until the end of February and then they will be delivered to the Conference Disaster Response Warehouse in Austell.  They will then get the kits to the UMCOR Warehouse.

Place these items inside a sealed one-gallon plastic bag:
• 1 hand towel (15" x 25" up to 17" x 27", No kitchen towels)
• 1 washcloth
• 1 comb (large and sturdy, not pocket-sized)
• 1 nail file or fingernail clippers (no emery boards or toenail clippers)
• 1 bath-size bar of soap (3 oz. and up)
• 1 toothbrush (single brushes only in original wrapper, No child-size brushes)
• 6 adhesive plastic strip sterile bandages
• $1.00 to purchase toothpaste
(NOTE: UMCOR Sager Brown is now purchasing toothpaste in bulk to be added to health kits before shipping to ensure that the product does not expire before they are sent.)
Important Kit Assembly Information
• All items included in kits must be NEW items.
• Strict rules govern product entry into international countries, it is important that kits contain only the requested items-nothing more.
• Do NOT include any personal notes, money or additional materials in the kits. These things must be painstakingly removed and will delay the shipment.

The District Office has been contacted by Rev. Montreuil Milord, Senior Pastor of the South Dade Haitian United Methodist Mission.  Their church is collecting food to be shipped to the people of Haiti.  They are trying to fill several large containers with items such as rice, beans, water, cooking oil, charcoal and flash lights.  If you would like to help with this endeavor, please send your check made payable to the LaGrange District and mark it Haiti Food Drive.

One Great Hour of Sharing (March 14, 2010)
When the first tremors of the earthquake in Haiti rocked that island nation, UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) staff were already in country, strategizing how United Methodists could help improve the lives of the people there. Their work is a direct result of the One Great Hour of Sharing Offering, which supports the operating expenses of those who bring healing and help in our name. It makes it possible, when we respond to an emergency like Haiti, to know that 100% of our gift goes directly to where the suffering is happening.
Every year, but this year more than ever, I hope you’ll give your people the opportunity to join with the faithful across the church to support the One Great Hour of Sharing.
Call (888) 346-3862 today to order envelopes and other resources so your congregation can participate in this churchwide offering. They will be sent at no cost to your church! Find more at umcgiving.org/specialsundays.
